Help me, I’ve Fallen

I feel like some kind of a fallen angel

Who lives in a state of defend-from-constant-danger

And it doesn’t seem like a break is comin’ anytime soon

So hunker down and get ready for a life-altering boom

It’s not a punishment kid, it’s just part of the walk

The kind that you reference during all of those spiritual talks

Healing is ugly, it’s raw and it’s in your face

Not everyone will find themselves in a similar space

So don’t worry if it’s not easy for everyone to understand

Don’t think it means you deserve some kind of internal reprimand

And don’t be afraid of this place that you’re in

It’s not the result of some kind of immortal sin

You’re not defective, there’s really nothing wrong

With you my dear, so don’t think that you don’t belong

As a matter of fact, you have a very specific destination

And although strange, there’s a reason for your stubborn indignation

You see, it drives you to the place beneath the surface

And it’s part of your very important and divinely-assigned purpose

But remember that the path is long and it’s hard

You knew that when you flipped them over and revealed your hand of cards-

When you woke up, and became aware of what’s real-

When you decided that for yourself and for your family you’d heal

So the clouds broke apart and God lit up your world

Right before you packed up, left, and were hurled

Into this place where you’ll learn to sit in the dark

So that with these same people, someday you’ll embark

On a journey to help the world lick their wounds

Because we all have to crawl out from under our tombs

To do the work that’s necessary for our growth

And it won’t be what we want, but what we need the most

So don’t worry, although I know it seems tough

And please don’t forget to remind yourself daily: you’re enough
